★★A HIDDEN SECRET IN MY ART★★

Posted by deathink - July 27th, 2015

"Oh cool, I found the Newgrounds Tank logo!" My Robot Day pictures are filled with little hidden references like that, but some are a little bit more obscure. For instance, did you realize that the pistol in Robotic Messiah was Hellboy's Pistol? Or... what does that squiggle mean near the hilt on the Katina in Robotic Shi.

But like an onion, these pictures have many more layers, and the references go far deeper than simple names and logos.

I am no stranger to cryptic symbolism, in fact most all of my older works revolve around it. With references hidden in gestures and angle calculations, it's enough to make Robert Langdon's head spin.

While I will not list all the references, I will however reveal one of the most prevalent and intricate. The common string that binds the four pictures.

You have probably noticed that all four picture take place in an apocalyptic setting, that's because they are "The Four Robots Of The Apocalypse" based of the biblical "The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse". But it goes far beyond just the fact that there is four of them and they are in an apocalyptic setting...

DEATH BUG: FAMINE
This one is simple... there is nothing in the background, just barren empty nothingness, the very essence of famine. I only had the idea of four horsemen rattling around in my head at this time but did not fully embrace it because I didn't know if I was going to make another.

ROBOTIC NIGHTMARE: WAR
This time, there was no question I would be making more.
War rode a fiery red horse, and was given a large sword. In Robotic Nightmare the background is on fire, and in his hand he clutches a giant Chainsaw sword. With the lightning and volcano, there is no peace in this picture. It is violence.

ROBOTIC SHI: DEATH
Shi literally translates to "Death". The pale colors is representative of the "Pale Horse" rode by Death.

ROBOTIC MESSIAH: PLAGUE
Plague rode a white horse, symbolized here but the great white mushroom cloud in the distance. The actual "plague" being the radiation sickness caused by the falling nukes. Plague was given a crown which you can see atop his head (although this is not only a reference to the four horsemen but something else as well).
It is also argued by religious scholar that Plague (also know as conquest) might be Jesus, hence the name and pose of Robotic Messiah. Although if you are smart and fancy darker mythology you might see a completely different Messiah represented here.
ONION, LAYERS, MANY!

There are many more references to the Horsemen (and lots of other stuff) but I don't want to spoil all the fun.

Oh, you just reminded me that I have been wanted to do an apocalyptic Christmas pic this year.
Satan and his four reindeer of the apocalypse

Hahaha, that sounds awesome!

I get the message now - Tom Fulp is the harbinger of death and famine.

You broke the Death Vinci code!

Okay I thought it was just a bunch of things nice to look at, but holy shit, you've got yourself a fan.

Thanks a real lot my man.

Well done.

Thanks HairClock.

Dude, I never noticed, that is badass! :D

Thanks bro! I'm not sure if anyone did, no one ever mentioned it in the comments.

Just... couldn't... resist being... your... fan...
I love hidden messages, and even more if they're related to the Holy Bible :D

Haha, thanks man.

Its always cool to me when someone's art has hidden meanings or references to other things that you never notice at first glance. Makes the art that much more appreciative

Yeah, I feel the same way.

My fave was probably the last one.

That one definitely has the most work.

I loved your art already and this just makes it way more cool!
